Omnova Solutions, Inc. is a relatively new name in the international industrial chemicals field, but it has a long history of involvement in the emulsion polymers, specialty chemicals and construction industry. Headquartered in Beachwood, Ohio, USA, Omnova Solutions competes in the same circles as BASF SE, E.I. DuPont, SA Trinseo and DOW Chemical.
Omnova Solutions was launched in 1999 when it was spun off from GenCorp, Inc., an international manufacturing giant that began operations in 1915 under the name, The General Tire and Rubber Company. Today, Omnova is a leading innovator of emulsion polymers and specialty chemicals that are used in the production of carpets, textiles, coated paper products, and durable nonwoven materials and laminates. In 2010, Omnova acquired Eliokem, widening its reach across the international specialty chemicals market.
A workforce of 2,300 people are employed by Omnova at design, manufacturing, distribution and sales facilities across the United States, China, Thailand, Singapore, India, France and England.
Omnova Solutions has two divisions: Engineered Surfaces and Performance Chemicals.
Engineered Surfaces is headquartered in Fairlawn, Ohio and is involved in the development, design and production of vinyl, coated fabrics, industrial films, and paper and specialty laminates utilized in a wide variety of applications such as automobile and building interiors. Markets for Engineered Surfaces products include: retail establishments, schools, recreational vehicles, corporate and medical offices, resort and entertainment properties, and private residences. Manufacturing facilities are located in China, the United Kingdom, Thailand and America.
Performance Chemicals is headquartered in Beachwood, Ohio. Its products comprise roughly 70 percent of the total Omnova sales. Under this division, there are two R&D facilities, a pilot plant, five manufacturing facilities and a pilot paper coater. Facilities within the Performance Chemicals division are located in Europe, China and India, as well as the United States. The Performance Chemicals division is involved principally in the manufacture of specialty chemicals and emulsion polymers.
The Engineered Surfaces division is producing products used in a variety of industries, such as residential and commercial construction and renovations, cabinetry, ceiling tiles, flooring and furnishings, office furniture, retail displays, recreational vehicles, and manufactured housing. The Performance Chemicals division is developing technologically advanced specialty chemicals and emulsion polymer products for a vast array of industries including construction, carpeting, paper, textiles and floor care. Products include:

• Specialty chemicals
• In-mold coatings
• Adhesives and binders
• Elastomeric modifiers, used in carpeting, oil & gas drilling, paper, specialty coatings, graphic arts, adhesives, construction, industrial rubbers and hoses, tire cords and other specialty applications.
Omnova Solutions has a long-standing commitment to ensuring product and operational sustainability, employing the most current technologies to reduce the environmental footprint in all the locations where it has production facilities. It installs the most environmentally friendly equipment and tools to lessen the environmental impact and ensure the safety of workers. Further, Omnova Solutions is a participant in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) “Better Buildings, Better Plants” program and has pledged to reduce its energy consumption according to certain set goals within the DOE program.
Omnova Solutions encourages its employees to volunteer their time to strengthening the communities where they live.
